Ever wanted to learn mahjong? KC Riichi is bringing the tiles to KantCon, and we'd love to teach you. Riichi is the modern Japanese style of mahjong: a fast, strategic four-player game where you race to build a winning hand from a wall of tiles. Part poker-style risk and reads, part rummy-style hand-building, it's the version you've seen in anime and online, and it's far more approachable than it looks. No experience needed and nothing to bring; our volunteers will walk you through everything from your very first tile to your first win, and you'll get to play on automatic mahjong tables that shuffle and build the walls for you, the same setup used in real tournaments. KC Riichi is a Kansas City-based community growing the game through casual meets, league play, and tournaments across the metro. Come say hi and find out where you can keep playing after the con.
